University Advice and Application

An important part of High School life is preparation for life after school; for the vast majority of our students that means University. I wanted you to be aware of all that our remarkable University Advising Centre team did last term, and will be continuing to do. Data speaks volumes here, so let me summarise just what our four Advisors, Senior Secretary and volunteer Internship Coordinator achieved between the start of year and the first half-term break:

  • Hosted 114 university representatives, averaging 3 per school day
  • Provided four major programming events for parents attended by 100+: Mythbusters, Mock Admissions, CIS workshops, All About UK
  • Hosted two major university fairs and one mini fair for a total of 37 universities attended by 16 Singapore high schools and over 400 people
  • Offered presentations on the Year Ahead for Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12; on US interviews, UCAS, Common App, non-Common App, and Financial Aid at Davis Schools
  • Represented our campus at NACAC, the largest gathering of international counselors and admissions representatives in the world
  • Met multiple times with all Grade 12 students
  • Met with all incoming Grade 11 students about their IB packages
  • Visited all Grade 10 and 11 mentor groups
  • Pushed out, on average, 15 notices each week to our Facebook Group comprised of 653 members and growing; updated our website, blog and posted photos on Twitter for each visit and event
There is also so much behind-the-scenes work that goes along with all this; collaborating on new IT transcript systems; chasing down incomplete records from new students so we can provide Universities with proper information; UCAS submissions; early Oxbridge and medicine applications; early round US references; 265 teacher recommendations by 48 teachers; SAT and PSAT administration and so on.

What’s most special, I think, is the way that the team does not just focus on necessary and crucial systems and paperwork, but (as those of you who have attended presentations will know) also contributes to fostering an outward-looking culture that values engagement, integrity and intellectual vitality. Our students are genuinely cared about and supported; and East campus (with, remember, only one graduating class so far) is on the map as a leading-edge school that not only takes superior care of its students but also contributes positively to the landscape of university admissions around the world.

I hope this is helpful for you to know as you and your children think about the future. Please let us know if we can assist with anything at all.

  1. Nice blog! I need as much information as possible regarding MBE Practice Questions and test guides for my younger sibling opting for law exam soon. Sessions and presentations conducted online are highly preferable. Even the online mock tests and programming coordinated classes would be quite helpful.
